RRR Show – May 26, 2013

Welcome to "Rapidly Rotating Records", Glenn Robison's weekly, one-hour radio program of "toe-tapping music from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and 30s", broadcast Sunday evenings at 6:00 PM over KISL FM 88.7 Avalon.

This week's show is all "about you," as we have a special welcome segment, hear from British music hall star and actress Nellie Wallace (don't worry, I wasn't familiar with her, either!), and celebrate the birthdays of Fats Waller and Al Jolson.  As always, simply click on the link below to instantly stream online and/or download the show.  And your comments, requests and topic suggestions are always welcome.  My favorite record on the show this week is "One O'Clock Baby" by Ben Bernie with Lambert & Hillpot.  Let me know what yours is.

Loved the show, especially I Wanna Know All About You, I Wanna Sing About You and One O’Clock Baby.
If you’re going to salute Ben Bernie, I’d like to hear Livin’ in the Sunlight, Lovin’ in the Moonlight, Following You Around and I’m Yours.

Thanks for all you do! Tim Gartner/Oakland CA

Too late here, but I love BB’s “Headin’ for Louisville.” A future program, maybe?

Hi, Leah. My copy of Ben’s rendition of “Headin’ For Louisville” is not broadcast quality. I try to source it elsewhere, but in any case we will be making a music trip to Louisville in an upcoming show.

Your shows are simply wonderful! I’d never heard of Nellie Wallace, but suffice it to say she’s a new favorite of mine. I adore saucy Music Hall performers.

Yes, it’s tough to find a clean copy of “Headin’ For Louisville.” It must have been a popular, well-played record. Understandable. I hope you find a better one sometime.
