Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
National Barbershop Quartet Day was last month on April 11, so I decided to have a different secular black male vocal group start off each segment of this week’s show, with the subject of their song be the segment topic. The group pictured above is the Golden Gate Quartet, but you’ll also hear from the Rust College Quartet, the Variety Four, and the Monarch Jazz Quartet. As a special “bonus,” you’ll hear the Oleanders. The topics includes “What’s the matter,” “Down on the Farm,” “Laughing at Life,” “Annabelle” and “Bonnets.” There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different–and we thing better–musical era.
ENJOY THE SHOW!
