Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
Do you know who these fellows are? They’re the Savoy Quartet, an important transitional group between ragtime and jazz. They produce a *lot* of sound for just the four of them as you’ll hear in the final segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. That segment is all about captains, but we’ll also be celebrating the birthdays of Fisher Hendley and Teddy Bunn. We’ll also look ahead to tomorrow night and in the third segment we’re just gonna “do it!” It’s also Mother’s Day here in the US and although I didn’t do a whole Mother’s Day show, or even a segment, the show wraps up with tenor Theodore Van Yorx singing the words to Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Mother o’ Mine.” There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different–and we thing better–musical era.Â
ENJOY THE SHOW!
