Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
Do you know who this cartoon character is? Many of my fellow Baby Boomers will recognize him as the evil “Master Cylinder” from Felix The Cat cartoons. But why in the world has he taken over the RRR playlist? Well because the Pathe phonograph company had a recording system unique to the industry which they called the “Master Cylinder.” It allowed the recordings to be dubbed onto various disc and cylinder formats, and in the second segment of this week’s show– celebrating Harry Barth’s birthday–you’ll hear a recording which was issued on both Pathe Sapphire and Needle Cut discs. In other segments we’ll celebrate William H. Tyers’ birthday, we’ll hear three from Billy Fazioli, we’ll take a musical trip to Panama and make a couple of correction. You’ll also hear an acoustical recording from 2022. No, that’s not a typo. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Just click the link above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.
THANKS FOR LISTENING! ENJOY THE SHOW!
