“Nothing Whatsoever In Common” RRR # 1192 20230521

Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Regular listeners to this show will probably immediately recognize the jovial gentleman at the keyboard as “Fats” Waller. He’ll be getting a birthday salute in the second segment of this week’s show. He’s usually heard on the show as piano or organ soloist or with Fats Waller and His Rhythm, but this time he’ll be playing a secondary role as accompanist. Longtime listeners are familiar with the little quiz we call “One Thing In Common” but we start off the show with a new feature we’re calling “Nothing Whatsoever In Common.” In other segments we’ll have a vocabulary lesson, mix things up and play some “wrap” music! There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era.
