On this week's brand new show, we'll do some crooning for KISL Engineer Bruce. We'll also do some wailing, take a dare, waste away and fulfill a request for listener Jim. Simply click on the link below to listen streaming online and/or download. Enjoy! As always, your comments are always welcome. Is there a song that's new to you? What's your favorite song on this week's show? One you didn't like quite so much? Why? Post your comments at the bottom of this page.
The first KISL Telethon was a big success and a lot of fun. Even though the telethon is over and the phone bank is down, you can still support RRR and KISL through a membership. While most of you are not on Catalina and can't directly benefit from the merchant discounts, as a KISL member, you will be helping to keep commercial-free community radio on the air and keep the station's equipment updated and operating at peak performance. A one-year individual membership is onlyl $20 and a premium membership is just $50 and comes with a free, space available, Santa Catalina Island Company tour, including the zip line, an $80 value just on its own! As you may know, my show is a labor of love for the music I play. I don't get paid for doing it, nor are its expenses supported or underwritten in any way, other than by me personally. I'm proud to say I hold KISL Premium Membership card # 0001. Won't you please consider joining me as a member of KISL? Click HERE to go to the KISL Membership page for more information and to easily sign up online. THANKS! (And by the way, KISL memberships make excellent Christmas gifts!) If you do decide to join, please let the station know you are supporting RRR!
Rapidly Rotating Records Show – December 9, 2012 (128 bit .mp3)
When a record collector who focuses on a certain period of musically recorded history has been at it for well nigh near 40 years, as I have, it is easy to think one has heard almost everything. Eventually the same tunes sung or played by the same artists keep turning up over and over. But, for some reason, whenever a familiar song is played on this show, Glen very often manages to dig up a version I never heard before. Since I know he cannot possibly be doing this on purpose, I can only attribute the phenomenon to a possibility that somehow territories of the U.S. have an influence on versions, various issued “takes”, popular labels, etc. In any case, hearing a fresh approach to an occasional old favorite is one of the big weekly adventures, for me, of listening to Glen’s RRRecords show. Thanks Glen.
Dear Glen
Thank you so much for your great show which keeps an important musical heritage alive. It’s so important that all the treasures from 78rpm and all the yesteryears’ music stars are not forgotten.
Hope for many more shows to come
Best wishes from Munich, Germany
